RUMPELSTILTSKIN
"All magic comes with a price!".
"All magic comes with a price!".
When the Devil is too busy
And Death's a bit too much
They call on me by name you see
For my special touch
To the gentlemen I'm Miss Fortune
To the ladies, I'm Sir Prize
But call me by any name
Any way it's all the same
And Death's a bit too much
They call on me by name you see
For my special touch
To the gentlemen I'm Miss Fortune
To the ladies, I'm Sir Prize
But call me by any name
Any way it's all the same
Given Name: Rumpelstiltskin
Alias(es): Mr Gold, the Dark One, crocodile and beast
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Bisexual
Age: Around three hundred years old, likely older than that
Race: Human? Fae? Imp? Well, mainly human
Home Town: Storybrooke, Maine [Actually from the Enchanted Forest]
Fandom: Once Upon a Time
Canon or Original: Canon
Character Portrayal: Robert Carlyle
Hair: Light brown with greying strands reaching just above his chin that fall in waves around the man's face.
Eyes: Dark brown eyes when he's human looking but when he's the Dark One his pupils become so large that it looks like his eyes are almost completely black.
Height/build: At a height of 5'8" with a frail build, it's almost sickly
Individual Features: Depending on whether one meets the man or the beast will decide on how one sees him for both are very different in the aspect of style. If one were to meet Mr Gold then they'd say he's a rather professional looking man or clearly a pawnbroker but if one met the Dark one they'd say he looks like a beast yet dresses in medieval clothing for that is the style in the Enchanted Forest. However, if one met the man behind the beast the one who brought the curse upon himself then one would think him a poor man. The best way to describe him is in parts for the three people he's been in his lifetime.
The Beast, a gold tinged skinned man without a limp for magic cures many things including a broken leg that never was able to heal properly. Eyes blown wide and lips always quick to turn into a grin, a crocodile grin. The clothes one sees upon the beast is always his best leathers and skin tight boots though the pants are most definitely skin tight as well, clothes fit for a king as one might say.
The Man, a pale faced sickly and frail looking man. A broken leg is hidden upon the man under his loose fitting pants, made by himself, that looks disfigured for it was never healed properly for a poor man deemed a coward there was no medical attention to be given. His eyes are human looking unlike the beast but they are know to be seen with fear in them along with the look of begging. Unlike the beast, the man's clothes are made by the thread he spins and are always raggedy for the man is a poor man. A light brown cloak, loose-fitting light brown pants, a very loose old looking shirt, and a walking stick is how he is seen all the time.
The Cursed, a human looking man with no magic but always looking to make a deal. Dressed in the finest of black suits with a red tie, always dressed professionally with a black cane that features a golden handle. Always Mr Gold is in seen walking with the limp that he once had from before he became the Dark One or Beast for the curse brought him to a world with no magic which meant he could not cure the limp. Eyes of the cursed are the same as the man for they are not inhuman looking unlike the beast.
Powers: Now magic is a rather vast thing but it does have it's limits, best to explain it in what he uses his magic for.
Deals/Contracts: One does not simply break a deal with this man without severe consequences for the deal is always sealed with magic and as he always says all magic comes with a price. Upon the deals creation, Rumpelstiltskin makes a contract appear which must be signed or else he will not offer his services but once signed it cannot be undone though if he sees fit to change then it will be changed. A price comes with each deal and for some that price is too much to pay but there is no way out of it.
Curses: Turning people into frogs, into bugs (often stepping on them too) or just simply making a curse to bring them to a world with no magic are what he can do. However, unless one was of no use to him and only offended him then one would not fall under a fate such as his curses but he can do them as proven by his creation of the curse which brought all of the Enchanted Forest to the world of no magic/our world.
Teleportation: Though not exactly a power, he is capable of it and tended to use it often before he became Mr Gold. Moving from place to place quite suddenly or placing himself in the throne of a king without even walking is common place while he was in the Enchanted Forest realm for that was who he was. Popping up when called or requested all with the use of magic.
Potion making: With a bit of magic and some ingredients, one could create a potion for nearly everything except of course bringing back the dead or creating true love. Often Rumpelstiltskin was seen giving a potion of some kind in many of his deals but sometimes not depending on what it was along with the fairy-godmother's wand.
Spinning straw into gold: With the magic gained from becoming the Dark One, Rumpelstiltskin learned to use his magic to turn the straw into the gold just as the old folktales told of him doing. Having been a spinster beforehand, he had long since known how to spin wool into the thread but with his magic he began to make gold to pay others for who would say no to gold. The spinning of straw into gold soon became a comfort for the man.
Seer: An ability to see the future, an ability stolen from one born with it, though jumbled for the sight is a jumble of puzzle pieces that need to be put into place. A straining and stressful ability for once seen it cannot be avoided nor will it tell you what exactly causes the chain of events. In Storybrooke, this power doesn't appear to work due to magic being different in the world we know.

History: Born to the village coward, Rumpelstiltskin didn't live the best of childhoods which may of reasoned why he became how he did. The father of Rumpelstiltskin was a thief but he did care for his son or at least he sort of did for he had a rather dreadful way of showing it. After his father gets all their money stolen from him while Rumple had watched him be beat up, Rumple is sent to be raised with spinsters until his father got a new job but to make Rumple feel better his father gave him a straw doll to play the role of protector who Rumple named Peter Pan (his father never forgot the name). During his time with the spinsters, Rumple learned to spin wool and became so good that the spinsters claimed he'd become so good as to serve kings and queens someday. When Rumple spoke of using his skills to be able to help his father and him be together the spinsters discourage it before giving him a magic bean to take his father to another land where none would know them.
Using the bean, the father and son had gone to Neverland where the father would go as a child in his dreams but that was when everything went wrong. The father wished to remain in Neverland and return to his youth but to do so he would need to rid himself of what is keeping him from being a child. Rumpelstiltskin. Having a son meant one could not be a child, Rumple did not wish to stay as well. A shadow ruled over Neverland and it came to take Rumpelstiltskin away but as it did so his father let go of the hand that he gripped while his doll, Peter Pan, fell to the ground as he was whisked away back to the Enchanted Forest. Upon his return, he stayed with the spinsters once more and was heartbroken at the loss of his father along with his protector Peter Pan.
Years later, Rumpelstiltskin married a woman named Milah who he believed himself to love and that she loved him. It was around the time that Milah became pregnant that Rumpelstiltskin was called to the front lines for the ogre wars to fight which pleased him as it was a chance for him to prove he wasn't a coward like his father. However, his chance to prove he was brave backfired when a seer told him his actions on the battlefield would led his son to become fatherless and with that knowledge he broke his leg to be sent home for one of the seer's predictions had proven true. Upon his return home, Milah was horrified at what he'd done marking that as the day that their relationship went down hill as well as the first day that Rumpelstiltskin saw his son Baelfire.
As time pasted, the wife began to drink at pubs and gamble her life away leaving Rumpelstiltskin to care for their only son all alone. One day, while his wife was drinking and gambling she had met a pirate named Killian Jones who quickly caught her attention. With the knowledge of where his wife was, Rumpelstiltskin had gone to bring her home for the sake of her son only for her to mock him only to agree to leave upon the arrival of their son asking for her. Once home, Rumpelstiltskin had begged his wife to make the marriage work if only for their son to which she agreed only for the next day for her to of been 'kidnapped' by the pirate she spoke with the night previous. Filled with the knowledge of who kidnapped his wife, Rumpelstiltskin had gone to the pirate captain to beg for his wife only to be turned down unless he fought the pirate which he could not do as he knew he'd lose his life leaving his son parent-less. In the end, Rumpelstiltskin returned home to tell his son that his mother was killed by a pirate even though she was very much alive but more on that later.
Time passes once more as the orge wars returns once away from the little village that Rumple and his son lived in, the king had decided that children were to become their soldiers. It was with the knowledge that his son was nearing the ripe age of becoming a soldier that ran with his son from their village only to be caught by royal knights who harass them, even so much as forcing Rumpelstiltskin to kiss his boot for forgiveness. Once the knights finally left the two alone, a mysterious man had come to them with an offer of help to escape their fate. Accepting the kind offer from the stranger, Rumple and his son went to the stranger's home where they were fed and Baelfire was laid to rest for the night. As Baelfire slept, the stranger and Rumpelstiltskin spoke of a way to stop Baelfire from having to fight a suicidal war.
The strange man who never revealed his name told Rumpelstiltskin of how to control the Dark One, a ruthless man with great power, and how to kill him as well. To control and kill the Dark One all one needed was his dagger With the new knowledge, Rumpelstiltskin and his son broke into the castle to steal the dagger which they succeeded. Dagger in hand, Rumpelstiltskin had sent his son back home as he summoned the Dark One who taunted him into killing the Dark One and gaining his powers. Poor Rumpelstiltskin was much too cowardly to actually control the Dark One either way.
New power inside him, he returned home to his son and murdered the knights who humiliated him as well as make them humiliate themselves. His son was horrified and that horror would only intensify as time went by. Once more time goes by, Rumpelstiltskin became well known and feared throughout the Enchanted Forest as well as hated for his cruelty. Rumpelstiltskin was nothing more than a beast of a man.
Many times his son begged him to stop so then they could go back to how they were but that was not something Rumpelstiltskin was capable of doing. One day, during the night, his son vanished and he went to look for him all the way to another village which was having the same problem as him for their children had vanished the same night. The children had told their parents of the sound of pipes but none believed them until the children were gone. So, with his new information, Rumpelstiltskin had waited until nightfall to find this mysterious pied piper only to find a young teenaged boy playing his pan pipes but this was no ordinary boy. No, the piped piper was someone Rumple knew well as a child for it was the man who abandoned him for youth and the fact the man had stolen his son angered him. The anger at the man only increased when offered a deal to see if his son wished to come home with him but with his fear his son would choose to leave him he had whisked Baelfire right on home, his son was angry for if given the choice he'd of chosen his father.
Not long after the incident with the choice, Baelfire found a way for his father and him to be happy together where his father no longer had the Dark One's power but this way was from the blue fairy. As well as Baelfire finding a way of becoming a family again, Rumpelstiltskin had brought an end to the ogre wars in hope of making his son happy which it didn't in the way he hoped. Moving back onto Baelfire's way of making his father free of magic but alive for the only way to rid the Dark One of his power was to kill him. A magic bean was the only way to travel to a world without magic, the one way Rumpelstiltskin and his son could be together happily. It was with the magic bean that the portal was opened but Rumpelstiltskin was a coward and had let go of his son's hand letting him fall into the portal alone, to grow up without a father as the seer had predicted.
After the loss of Baelfire, he searches for a way to get to his son once more even so much as creating a curse that could bring him along with everyone else to the world without magic. The seer never forgotten by the Dark One was met once more only for her power to be taken by him with a prophecy that his undoing would be the boy who brought his son back to him. To avoid the prophecy coming to pass, he said simply that he'd kill the boy if only it would be so simple.
One day, Rumpelstiltskin met a man named William Smee who spoke of having a magic bean and made a deal for youth in exchange for the bean. Sadly, it was not meant to be for Smee was caught by a pirate who Rumple knew quite well. It was the pirate who stole his wife, Killian Jones. Following Killian, the Dark One challenged him to a duel to the death due to the stealing of his wife who Killian claimed had passed long ago. As the two fought, Rumpelstiltskin was winning and was about to kill the pirate before his wife appeared begging for the pirate's life. Milah admitted to having fallen for the pirate and running away with him. To save the pirate's life she even made a deal for the magic bean which she held upon their ship and that Rumple was to arrive in the morning.
When Rumpelstiltskin arrived on the Jolly Rodger, he asked Milah of why she left Baelfire without a mother to which she answered and when asked about if she ever even loved Rumple she said she never did. Being told Milah never loved him, Rumpelstiltskin became enraged and tore out her heart crushing it in front of Killian. As soon as Killian tried to kill Rumple as well after the heart was crushed, Killian had his hand chopped off as it was thought to hold the magic bean but it did not and Rumple was very much angered when he learned of it later.
Many deals followed after his fight with Killian as did apprentices. Rumpelstiltskin taught the queen of hearts her magic, he taught her daughter the future evil queen, and he also taught the wicked witch of the west. What was thought to be loved had even occurred between Rumpelstiltskin and the queen of hearts but at that time she was nothing more than the miller's daughter, he of course ended up teaching her to spin straw into gold after he made her a deal. Love didn't turn out well and the miller's daughter tore out her heart so she could become next in line to be queen as she got married to a prince.
Rumpelstiltskin even made a deal with a king to give him a child to be his heir, this child had a twin who would grow up to do great things as Rumpelstiltskin well knew.
Soon, Rumpelstiltskin had amassed so much wealth and power that he had his own castle but a large castle such as his was lonely without anyone else to keep him company as well as that it gets dusty. When the summon from a ruler of a town came, he knew what his price was to be for his help and that price was the daughter of the man. With much protest from everyone else, the daughter who was named Belle agreed to go with him to save her town which did occur for it was no longer under attack from ogres by coming with him.
During Belle's time with Rumpelstiltskin, she soon helped him grow ever so slightly soft. Even a beast was capable of being loved, as Belle so easily proved.
One day, Rumpelstiltskin is called upon once more by the king who needed a son for the son he had been given had been killed due to his arrogance. Luckily enough for the king there was a twin who Rumpelstiltskin brought to him but this man was not the prince James that died for he was David the Shepard who was kind and just. It was the David who would become the prince Charming so well known to those in the world without magic as the prince to Snow White's princess.
True love soon arrived for Rumpelstiltskin as he let Belle go outside of the castle walls with permission if she so wished she could run away never to return and he would not follow. She did just as she was given permission, she attempted to run away even though she loved Rumpelstiltskin but on her way she met the evil queen who claimed that true love's kiss could break any curse. So, Belle returned to the castle and gave Rumpelstiltskin a kiss causing him to begin to look human once more before he became panicked. Angry and panicked, Rumpelstiltskin blew up at Belle locking her in a cell but come morning he set her free with her imparting words that consisted of him regretting letting her go. He did not care. Once Belle was gone and the evil queen had shown herself claiming Belle had committed suicide, he switched out a chalice for a chipped cup on his pedestal as that chipped cup was the cup that Belle had chipped on her first day in his castle.
Later, Rumpelstiltskin hunted down Cinderella's fairy godmother to take her wand but it occurred as the fairy was about to grant Cinderella her way to the ball. In the end, Rumpelstiltskin and Cinderella make a deal for her to go to the ball but he'd let her know of the price at a later date. Cinderella signed the contract and the fate of her price that day.
Helping out the most well known of true loves, Snow White and prince Charming occurred as well. The payment for his first deals with the pair was a strand of their hair though the prince was more a coat then specifically asking for the hair. With the strands of hair, Rumpelstiltskin makes a love potion which he bottles up for a later date though he uses a drop of it on the curse he made to find his son. Later, he helps the prince find Snow White once she's been put under the sleeping curse but his price was for the prince to hide the love potion in the stomach of a beast best known as Maleficent.
After helping the prince and Snow White multiple times, he lets slip on purpose to the evil queen a hint about the curse that would ruin the happy endings other than her's. The evil queen soon ran off when she remembered what he'd trained her to do and dropped in on Snow White's wedding to tell her that she'd ruin her happiness. Sometime after the wedding, he went to a ball for Cinderella and her prince to tell her of the price. The price of the deal to go to the ball was Cinderella's first born child to which she had no choice to agree with for she'd signed a contract. Later that night of the present ball, she tried to leave her prince but told him of her deal they soon spoke to Snow White and prince Charming to find a way to avoid the deal.
A plan was implemented to lock Rumpelstiltskin away in a cell, it worked and he soon was locked away until his curse was to be put into action though it came with the price of Cinderella's prince being gone until he got the baby. A visit from the prince and princess gave him the name of the child who was born of true love for Snow White and prince Charming were true love in itself. Another visit came in the form of the evil queen who he made a deal with to live comfortably in their new world in payment for telling her that the heart that would be needed to make the curse work was the heart of the one she loved most, he also requested that whenever he said please she would obey. Soon it was quiet again and all he did was go even more insane if that was at all possible but he did use his magical squid ink to write the name Emma repeatedly on a scroll of parchment that he hid in the stone walls of his cage.
When the curse was implemented the queen came to gloat but it did not faze him for he was waiting impatiently for it to occur. Once the curse hits, everyone including him get transported to a world without magic with their memories of who they were vanishing with new memories left in their wake.
In the new world, Rumpelstiltskin becomes Mr Gold the pawnbroker who practically owned the town. The queen now turned mayor came to him twice once complaining she didn't like the life that she now had then coming to him asking for a child. Nothing that the mayor went on about made any sense to him but he did get her the child she asked for though not understanding the anger she aimed at him once she knew who the mother of the child was.
Twenty eight years after the curse was implemented, Mr Gold met a woman named Emma at Granny's Bed and Breakfast causing his memories to return for Emma was the creation of true love specifically that of Snow White and prince Charming. Of course, the mayor was not happy with Emma being in town and got mad at him but he simply said 'please' to make her drop the subject of whether he made sure that Emma would arrive. A few nights later, a pregnant Ashley previously known as Cinderella broke into his shop to steal back a contract they made where he'd get the child for she could not care for the baby at such a young age.
It was of no surprise that his deal with Ashley fell through for once Emma got involved there was no way she'd back down so they made a deal where Emma would owe him a favour. A few attempts of causing trouble in small ways occurred but nothing major except burying his dagger to prevent the mayor from getting it. However, he makes a deal with Emma to help her with her campaign to become the town's sheriff as the previous one passed due to his heart being crushed into ashes by the mayor, the sheriff was the Huntsman. Setting the mayor's office on fire, letting Emma stand up to him, and causing her to prove she's worthy of being sheriff he in a round about way helped Emma become the town sheriff though she wasn't pleased with his way of getting that.
Sometime later, Belle's father by hinting from the mayor goes to Mr Gold's home and breaks in stealing things specifically the chipped cup. Just earlier, before the father broke into Mr Gold's home, Mr Gold had take the van from the man for he could not keep up with his payments which led up to the thievery. Hunting the man down wasn't too hard for Mr Gold but once he found the man Mr Gold nearly beat him too death if it weren't for the police showing up then he would have. Using his connections, Mr Gold escaped jail but not without being in a cell first where the mayor forced him to say his true name 'Rumpelstiltskin' before he could have the chipped cup returned to him.
A new deal is struck between Gold and the mayor, he agrees to hide Charming's new wife in their new world then place the blame on Mary Margaret Blanchard better known to all as Snow White. Taking on the role of Mary Margaret's lawyer, he pretends to help though it's unknown which side he was on but soon he let the woman he kept locked away free letting the truth out that Mary was innocent though not soon enough did he do it that her life was not ruined. However, during the time that Mary was locked away in jail a man named August appeared in town who then tricked Gold into believing that it was his son Baelfire but it was a lie.
After more trouble in the happy little town, the mayor comes to him claiming to of found a way to get rid of Emma by using the sleeping curse. It was of no surprise to Gold that the mayor's plan blew up in her face when it was her son who fell under the curse instead of Emma. So, after being begged to help once Emma finally remembered who she was, he pointed Emma in the direction of where the true love potion was which she got but he tricked her and ran off with it. Even without his potion the curse was broken, he knew Emma didn't need his potion. However, before the curse broke, Belle arrived in his shop with words told to her by another to request Gold's protection which while crying and giving her a hug he promised to do.
Taking Belle with him, he went to the wishing well which was the lake that held the magic to bring whatever one wishes to return. At the well, the curse was broken for them returning their memories before Gold dropped the potion into the well bringing magic back to their town. Once the curse is gone and magic is back, Belle begs Rumpelstiltskin to give up on vengeance and makes him promise he won't go after the evil queen which he agrees to. However, he finds a loophole from his promise by sending a wraith after the queen which then leads to Emma and Snow White being trapped in the Enchanted Forest.

Name/alias: Hatter
Age: Officially sixteen
RP Experience: Couple years now
Any Other Characters?: Pavel Chekov
RP Sample: Death was a rather confusing thing, where one goes and what happens to them are always there as questions. Even as the Dark One who claims status of immortality could not avoid death and he most definitely did not for it was either he died or Pan lived, no other options were open to contemplation. In a world of magic, all magic comes with a price and that price was paid by the Dark One that day. Giving up one's life to protect one's family along with all those that the monster in lamb's clothing had hurt for that was the one way to redeem the Dark One for both had done much wrong while only one regretted it. A regretful Dark One could also cause more trouble than one originally expected especially if they held their life in low regard, forgetting those survival instincts they worked so hard to keep.
There was nothing left for Rumpelstiltskin in the land of the living or not really for his son detested him especially when he learned of the prophecy while Belle, his 'true love', was young and could move on. It was with the knowledge of nothing being there for him that he had acted, calling his shadow back with the dagger then magically appearing before his father 'Peter Pan' as he so liked to be known. The only way to kill 'Peter Pan' was by the dagger of the Dark One but that also meant that the Dark One, Rumpelstiltskin, must die as well. Unfair as the way to defeat Pan was, he knew that it was to happen but he was scared at first now he knew not to be afraid.
Better to die a hero than die a wicked old imp who no one trusted let alone liked.
It was with the thought of making his son proud that he had killed his own father to protect everyone else but killed himself in the process. After killing his father is where one comes upon Rumpelstiltskin the man behind the Dark One just floating in the darkness of his sins along with death. However, this darkness soon faded from his vision as he awoke to find himself alive very much the opposite of what he had expected. As soon as the idea of him being alive sank in, Rumpelstiltskin sat up quickly seemingly having been laying down previously and his eyes burst open in a panic. No, he couldn't of survived so easily unless someone brought him back but who would of been so stupid and willing to do as such for all except Belle hated his existence yet here he was alive.
Nothing made sense to the man except that it appeared he was in a world unfamiliar to him which was quite the little feat for a man who wandered through many different lands in his lifetime. The land it appeared he was in was vast and appeared to be a forest but what forest was uncertain. Slowly standing up from the grassy floors that he had been seated upon, Rumpelstiltskin looked around in confusion before looking down at his clothes to find they'd reverted into that which he wore in the Enchanted Forest. A new question came to the man, did Pan's curse work? If so then how? Pan was now dead or should of been and the saviour should of been able to do something with the queen helping out. As more and more questions popped up into his mind the more confused Rumpelstiltskin became.
"This is impossible..." An irritated voice slipped out from Rumpelstiltskin's lips, ones that formed a scowl.
