Definition of deductive reasoning from dictionary.com: Deductive reasoning is a logical process in which a conclusion drawn from a set of premises contains no more information than the premises taken collectively.
So in turn, all Mycroft would have to do is look at an item, scan over it a couple of times, and draw conclusions about a person from the object. Example: In the episode "The Empty Hearse", Sherlock and Mycroft play a game called deductions. What they did is toss a hat back and forth and a couple conclusions Mycroft came up with is that the owner of the hat had obsessive compulsive disorder, considering only one of the balls on the hat strings had been chewed on and that the hat had been repaired at least three times, proving it to be sentimental.

Personality:
Mycroft is a number of things, but he is not perfect. Mycroft is a sweet tooth, and above a number of things, he loves cake, which is why he is on a diet, but there are other reasons for the diet, as far as I am aware. Mycroft, like Sherlock, can be a bit of an arrogant SOB, which is why he doesn't get along well with most people. He cares deeply for his brother even though he seems to irritate him quite a bit. It's not something new with Mycroft either. Mycroft tends to think that he is the smartest one in the family, but he's always negated it seems. The older Holmes brother tends to act mysterious, and at other times he tries to act superior and that he's the boss, although he notices that he can't be taken quite so seriously.
Although, there are a few negative factors about Mycroft. Even though he loves his brother, Mycroft doesn't like looking out for him on his own and always asks someone else (particularly John) to keep an eye on him. He has a love/hate relationship with pretty much everyone he's run into, and he's just somewhat a difficult person to get along with. Mycroft once made the mistake of letting out information that ruined his little brother's reputation and he's always had a regret for it.
Mycroft always takes responsibility for the chaos that he had created. He took responsibility for Sherlock's big "uh-oh" when Magnussen was killed and had to do what was best: send his brother into exile. On the other hand, Mycroft is also sassy and will sass back, especially when he's talking to Sherlock.
Likes:
+ Cake
+ Smoking (What? What do you mean?) Yes, he likes to have a smoke every once in awhile
+ Causing his little brother stress
+ Being proper in every way possibly.
+ Making sure his brother knows his place
Dislikes:
+ Having to look out for his brother on his own
+ Sending his brother into exile
+ Not getting his cake (He's on a diet, it's complicated.)
+ His brother getting into things that do not involve him.
+ Giving out information that can ruin his brother's reputation
Fears:
+ Losing his brother forever
+ Jim Moriarty coming back from the dead
History:
Mycroft Holmes was born to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Holmes. He was the oldest of two children, his younger brother being the famous consulting detective, William Scott Sherlock Holmes. Mycroft grew up taking care of Sherlock as much as possible. He went through his years at school being noted as highly intelligent.
Mycroft was introduced into the series as John received an odd phone call from him from a phone booth. Mycroft was found waiting for John inside an abandoned warehouse, his umbrella pressed into the cement. He asked John why he seemed so interested in Sherlock and also warned to be careful around him. Mycroft had prior intel of John before he met him, but he seemed to come across as more of a villain than someone that could prove some benefit to anyone. It was later that Mycroft happened to be Sherlock's older brother and that he worked for the British Government.
It was soon revealed that Mycroft had some sibling rivalry issues with Sherlock and that he didn't want to deal with the profusely arrogance that his brother contained. Mycroft supposedly was on a diet and that it was going fine so far.
In "A Scandal in Belgravia", Mycroft sent Sherlock and John to Buckingham Palace, where they discussed a matter of importance: Irene "The Woman" Adler. According to Mycroft, Irene "The Woman" Adler is of interest to the British Government, defining that there are compromising photos of herself that are being used as blackmail in order to get the famous detective's attention.
Mycroft suggested to Sherlock that he investigate the case.
Mycroft sat down with Irene Adler to discuss Jim Moriarty, the consulting criminal that she worked for and Sherlock's arch nemesis. Mycroft was labeled as "the Ice Man" according to Adler.
There had been talk about the case of the "Hounds of Baskerville", and in correlation with the H.O.U.N.D. project that was discovered later on in the episode, Baskerville Military Base was a place that Mycroft had special admittance to, considering he worked for the British Government. His card was snatched by Sherlock though, and later on, Mycroft is notified on his mobile that there had been a security breach at Baskerville. After figuring out it was Sherlock in the entire ordeal, Mycroft sent multiple texts to his brother's phone wanting to know what was going on.
To keep a close eye on Sherlock, Mycroft sent Greg Lestrade to the town near the moors and the Baskerville Base.
Unknown to Sherlock, as his rise to fame became known by finding the lost Reichenbach painting, Mycroft had been talking with a journalist named Kitty and gave her some information about Sherlock. Revealed later on in "The Reichenbach Fall" to John Watson, Mycroft's intentions were not to ruin his little brother's reputation and drive him to his 'suicide'.
-----------
It had been two years since the "death" of Sherlock Holmes, and everyone with the exception Anderson, one of the detective inspectors at New Scotland Yard, believed that Sherlock Holmes was truly dead. There were theories as to how Sherlock might have faked his death, but no one was going to take Anderson's word for it.
There was a man running in the woods that were not native to the British heartland and the man is soon imprisoned in a cell where two men were shown interrogating the man in shackles. After the one guard left, the other went over to the shackled prisoner, revealing that it was Mycroft that was sitting in the chair while the other interrogated the prisoner about the possible affair that his wife was having. Come to find out, the prisoner was Sherlock Holmes. Mycroft took him back to his headquarters in London, informing him of Jim Moriarty's secret underground network.
Mycroft warned Sherlock that John wasn't going to be too pleased to see him running amok.
In the falt of 221B Baker Street, Mycroft and Sherlock were playing games as London's terrorist threat levels were rising. Mycroft didn't appear to be happy about his brother's return to the city, although in reality, he was glad to have him home.
Come to find out, Mycroft had a hand in Sherlock's fake suicide, its name being "Operation Lazarus." After the deed had been done, Mycroft had sent Sherlock to do undercover work for the government, and did as stated above.
In "The Sign of Three," Sherlock called up Mycroft as he was getting ready to give his best man's speech. Mycroft, being the older brother that he is, assured that he'd do just fine and asked him, "Do you remember Redbeard?" As Sherlock was giving his best man speech and the Mayfly Man issue rose up from the depths, triggered by the camera man, Mycroft appeared in Sherlock's mind palace and reminded him about what he said about coincidences: They should never be ignored.
Mycroft came up to Sherlock's flat in "His Last Vow" to check up on how he was doing on his case. A very dirty and drugged up Sherlock told Mycroft that he was looking into the cases that of Charles Augustus Magnussen. Mycroft warned Sherlock not to become mixed up in the cases of Magnussen as he was not to be touched. Magnussen only a businessman and not a criminal.
Mycroft showed up in Sherlock's mind palace once again after being shot in the chest by Mary Morstan, John's wife. He told Sherlock not to go into shock, as that would prevent him from dying.
Christmas day, Mycroft was at his parents' house with Sherlock and he was complaining about how it had been Christmas all week. Unfortunately for Mycroft, his drink was drugged up and when he woke up from his drugged up sleep, he caught wind of what was going on and soon pursued Sherlock who was at Appledore, the home of Charles Magnussen. Mycroft ordered Sherlock to stand down and soon, he had to place Sherlock into exile after Magnussen was shot and killed.
Four minutes into the exile and a message was broadcast to the entirety of London. Jim Moriarty was back from the dead and Mycroft ordered to have Sherlock brought back, since the cases with Moriarty would serve as penance for the murder of Charles Augustus Magnussen.
Random Facts:
Mycroft is considered the British Government by Sherlock and John.
Name/alias:Resurrect!It was a warm yet rainy July day. Mycroft, up in his home, looked out the window. Mycroft had taken on the responsibility of keeping an eye on John Watson, a friend of his brother's; He knew that it had been hard on John to hear of Sherlock's "suicide", but Mycroft could never reveal that it was all a scam to get rid of Moriarty once and for all. Mycroft had sent Sherlock out of the country so it appeared that he was, in a manner of speaking, dead. Mycroft had no idea what Sherlock was up to, and he hadn't heard out of him for awhile. There had been word that there had been cases mysteriously solved, and Mycroft could only assume that it was Sherlock doing his job, working as a consulting detective. Mycroft walked away from the window, a bolt of lightning cracking across he sky. He decided to check any mail that he could have possibly had to see if there was anything about Sherlock's whereabouts.

After sitting down at his desk, Mycroft opened up his email, and noticed that there were a few of them that had been sent from a source of intelligence. He scanned through them, and as he scanned, a solemn look took over his face. "Oh brother dear. You've managed to get yourself into more trouble than I had imagined." He stood up from his desk and poured himself a drink. This was going to take a while for him to process it all. His brother was on the run it appeared. His disguises were good, but they weren't always convincing. Mycroft would now have to go after him and get him out of a sticky situation, which he definitely did not like doing. The people that were in other areas Mycroft was a bit unsure about, wracked him of each and every nerve. He'd have to learn another language very quickly in order to blend in. It would have been rather unfortunate if he went in without having a spare idea about how to speak a certain language.
"It's time to go to work," Mycroft told himself. It took him a couple of hours to learn the Serbian language. He locked himself inside of his office and went over some of the basics and learned the origin of the language. This wouldn't be too bad after all. After learning the language, Mycroft decided that it was time to go and retrieve his brother from whatever hell he was into. As far has he was concerned, it was time for Sherlock to come home. It had been awhile ago that Mycroft had learned there was a terrorist threat, and with the situation that he had in front of him right now, it was certain that it was time to bring his brother home. Mycroft knew that Sherlock was London's only hope and it would have been wonderful to have him back. Hopefully things would go all right so then Mycroft could bring his brother back without any issues.
